Kintyre Introduction

Kintyre, a rural peninsula spreading southwards from Tarbert on the shore of Loch Fyne to the Mull of Kintyre, made famous by Sir Paul McCartney's Wings song and made infamous by the Chinook Helicopter Crash now marked with a memorial stone sculpture, is a beautiful if not sparsely populated area of Scotland in the county of Argyll.

Kintyre is a perfect place to enjoy the peaceful outdoors, the varied coastline which includes superb, clean, sandy beaches, forestry walks and, as mentioned, plenty of golf courses to enjoy.

It is difficult to sum up Kintyre in a few words, and difficult to highlight one particular aspect above others to attract you here, that of course depends on your holiday needs.

Kintyre is perfect for short breaks, with many accommodation providers offering short breaks, and weekend breaks for romantic couples or for stressed urban workers! Wildlife enthusiasts will love Kintyre, particularly bird lovers with sightings of Golden Eagles, other birds of prey and many uncommon species throughout the area. For the best view of some of the unusual birds (on their last stop in migration) why not visit the Machrihanish Bird Observatory.

Places in Kintyre such as Tarbert and Carradale are great places to base any holiday break particularly as the access to seafood and good restaurant food is good at places such as the Corner House Bistro and Dunvalanree. Kintyre prides itself on producing great local produce and cooking with it and can be found widely across the peninsula sold from producers and served by hotels and restaurants.
